Biography
Joseph Galloway was an opponent of American independence and administered police and port affairs for the British occupation of Philadelphia. He departed with British forces in 1778 and went to England in October. Pennsylvania attainder proceedings led to seizure and sale of his property. His record concerns wartime flight and exile amid active British service, rather than a verified prison sentence or punishment solely for private opinion.
