Biography

Jonathan Sewall was a Massachusetts former attorney general. He was individually named in the 1778 Massachusetts Banishment Act. The law prohibited return and provided for removal of returning Loyalists. This record concerns legal exclusion after departure; it does not establish a prison term or date the original departure to 1778.
