Biography

John Ujick wrote from room 213 at Ellis Island in the November 12, 1934 Daily Worker. His first-person account describes political detainees, vermin, restrictions on sitting outdoors and a missing remittance from Seattle. He says protests finally secured a chair on the porch after he had been denied that access since October 29. That is the start of a reported restriction, not a verified intake date. His nationality, precise immigration charge, eventual discharge and complete detention length are not stated.
