Biography

John Ryan was the chief negotiator of the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers. On February 9, 1973, Judge D. Donald Jamieson sentenced him to six months to four years for defying an injunction against the teachers strike. The Militant reported that he was imprisoned at Holmesburg and permitted to leave daily between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to negotiate a settlement. The sentence range does not establish actual time served, and this report supplies no release date. Source: The Militant, February 23, 1973, pp. 2–3: https://themilitant.com/1973/3707/MIL3707.pdf
