Biography
John Pendleton was a member of the Jonah House nonviolent resistance community in Baltimore and a two-time Plowshares activist (AVCO 1983 and Trident II 1984).
Separate AVCO initial detention and bail release
The original Nuclear Resister issue19, August23,1983, page1 names John Pendleton in the July14 AVCO action and reports that all seven defendants were released on recognizance July22. The complete page was rendered and visually checked. This establishes an initial eight-day pretrial stay, not the endpoint of later sentenced imprisonment. Original contemporaneous custody report.
The original July14 UPI report names him and records the men's transfer to Billerica after arraignment and refusal of bail. Full indexed text was read; direct retrieval previously returned403. Original arrest report. The primary Massachusetts opinion identifies John M. Pendleton in footnote1 and affirms trespass while reversing the property-injury conviction on August15,1990. Separate 1985 tech-fair arrest
The original Nuclear Resister 29, February 27, 1985, page 4 names John Pendleton among the leafletters at the Burlington Marriott military recruitment fair January 29, and reports his arrest for trespass with Scott. It reports their successful defense at the February 12 trial before Judge Ed Viola. The original dated cover and complete article page were rendered and visually checked in the History Nebraska archive, physical pages 30–31. This is 1985, not 1983. No admission or release date is supplied, so those fields remain unknown. Original dated newsletter. His AVCO initial detention and Trident II case remain separate.
Separate December 1983 AVCO detention
The original February 12, 1984 Nuclear Resister, physical page 6 / printed page 5, AVCO Plowshares Guilty, individually names all seven defendants. It reports their December 16, 1983 conviction, sentence, immediate jailing and release later that same day pending appeal. This short post-verdict interval is recorded separately from July 14–22, 1983; the intervening period is not counted as incarceration. Concurrent versus consecutive terms depended on prior records and is not individually assigned without evidence.
The report also distinguishes the December 20 return of John Pendleton and Jean Holladay. That later imprisonment is not assigned to the other five. The contemporaneous report confirms Pendleton's February 6 release but only forecasts Holladay's early-March release, which must not be entered as an exact actual discharge.
Separate Trident II custody
Original complete relevant pages in NR027 and NR035 were rendered and viewed. The existing AVCO and tech-fair cases remain distinct. Final Trident release and licensed identified portrait remain unresolved; another defendant's later freedom is not borrowed.
Contemporary 1986 custody evidence
The Trident II Plowshares update explicitly reports Bill Boston (William Boston), John Pendleton and Leo Schiff in the release group that physically left Rhode Island prison August 23, 1986. This confirms the endpoint of the existing October 1985 sentence stay, not the separate October 1984 pretrial detention. Admission remains month precision; no exact total is computed from it. Frank Panopoulos’s October 17 date in the next clause was still a forecast and is not assigned to this release group.
