Biography
John Pancsik of Taylor Springs, Illinois, was one of fourteen men arrested in the Hillsboro labor and unemployed-workers prosecution in 1934. The July 1, 2019 Journal-News retrospective names him separately from Frank Pancsik. The defendants were accused under Illinois 1919 syndicalism law of advocating violent governmental change, without any specific acts of violence charged in the indictment. On January 7, 1935 all fourteen stipulated to guilt on the lesser charge of conspiracy to do an illegal act and were freed under nine months parole. Exact individual jail admission, bail release and completed custody duration are not supplied. Source: https://cdn1.creativecirclemedia.com/journalnews/files/20190630-202614-HJN%207-1-19.pdf#page=7
Page 2's August 17 Hillsboro dispatch names Mucci, Jurkanin and John Panseik as arrested Friday afternoon on conspiracy-to-overthrow-government charges after four additional indictments the preceding week. It identifies Mucci as a Progressive Miners of America miner and Taylor Springs village-board member, and John Panseik as brother of Frank Panseik of the original group. The established John Pancsik record is retained with the newspaper spelling noted. The relative Friday wording does not establish a unique calendar day; Jurkanin's later August 30 account placing him in the original May group is a preserved chronology discrepancy, not grounds for another invented arrest.
