Identified archival photograph
The profile photograph is the named portrait printed with the obituary of John N. Sturdivant, the AFGE president and AFL-CIO vice president, in Seafarers LOG, December 1997, page 7. The full original page was rendered and visually inspected before extracting the portrait region. The printed John Sturdivant caption is retained; no face reconstruction or enhancement was applied. This is a later-life portrait published in 1997, not a photograph of the 1984 arrest. Original union newspaper, photo and caption.
A contemporary December 13, 1984 UPI report identifies AFGE vice president John Studervant among the embassy protesters and describes police taking them away in vehicles. Its spelling is a source variation. The report was available as indexed text, while ordinary direct retrieval returned 403; no access restriction was bypassed. It does not provide an individual jail-admission or release endpoint, so neither has been guessed. Original UPI arrest report.
