Biography

John James was a working-class leader named by the Daily Worker among those arrested in a Birmingham crackdown after the shooting of a society woman. The August 12, 1931 issue describes scores of arrests on suspicion and identifies Braxton, David James and John James as militant leaders among the arrested workers. The report presents the roundup as political and racial repression; it does not establish an individual murder charge, a conviction, or a measured custody total.
