Biography
John Golden was an IWW member from Eureka. John Golden received a one- to fourteen-year prison sentence, which he served in San Quentin from January 23, 1920, to May 23, 1924. Prison officials, riled by Golden's refusal to "accept the status and tasks of a convict" because he considered himself a "political prisoner who had committed no crime, " punished him by keeping him in solitary confinement for over a year until he physically collapsed.
The February 26, 1924 Daily Worker political-prisoner roster individually prints John Golden with historical prisoner number 33375. The entry appears under San Quentin State Prison, California. This is a contemporary institutional identifier, not a federal BOP register number. No admission or release date, individual sentence length, actual duration, organizational membership or present status is inferred.
The California defense report individually lists the IWW criminal-syndicalism conviction with a one-to-fourteen-year nominal term. Appeals were prospective, not acquittals or releases. This contemporary snapshot does not establish a new physical admission or complete actual-service total.
