Biography

John F. Wheeler was a printer associated with the Cherokee Phoenix press at New Echota, convicted on September 15, 1831 under Georgia's law forbidding white persons to live in the Cherokee Nation without a state license. Sentenced to four years at hard labor, he accepted clemency and was discharged about September 22, 1831.
