Biography

John Davis was a Black Chicago worker arrested with Friends of the Soviet Union organizer Alexander Darin on June 20, 1933 at Lawrence and Spaulding. Police broke up the open-air meeting, brought both to the station, insulted them and struck Davis in the ribs. After a night in jail they appeared before Judge Haas and were released pending July 7 trial on unlawful-assembly and inciting-to-riot charges. June 21 release is a transparent following-morning calendar normalization; no later outcome is printed.
