Biography

John Bowman was a former Black Panther whom the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement submission identifies alongside Hank Jones and Ray Boudreaux as detained in August 2005 for refusing to testify before a grand jury investigating a 1971 San Francisco police killing. The submission describes indefinite contempt detention and alleges torture during the earlier 1973 investigation. It does not establish an exact admission day, a discharge date, a criminal conviction in the reopened investigation or a complete duration. The 2005 detention is separate from the historical investigation.
