Biography

John Arthur Young was a U.S. Army Vietnam prisoner of war from Grayslake, Illinois, identified in contemporary antiwar reporting as Staff Sergeant John A. Young. He was captured on January 31, 1968, and repatriated on March 16, 1973. During captivity he opposed the war. After returning, he was among the enlisted former POWs accused of collaboration and later mutiny over their conduct in captivity. Vietnam Veterans Against the War reported that the remaining charges were dismissed for lack of evidence in October 1973. His recorded custody period is Vietnam POW captivity; no separate U.S. imprisonment for the postreturn accusations has been verified.
