Biography

Johanna Reir was among three workers arrested in a raid on the National Textile Workers Union office in Lawrence on Monday, March 2, 1931, according to the Daily Worker of March 5, 1931, page 2. Police drove her out of Lawrence. The printed name is retained without expanding initials or supplying an unprinted first name. No final court outcome or exact custody duration is established.

The Daily Worker of March 4, 1931, page 1, spells the Lawrence union-office clerical worker’s name Johanna Reid and says police ordered her out of town after the previous-day raid (March2 by the March3 dateline). The March5 issue prints Reir for the same office raid and expulsion. Reid is retained as a source spelling variant; no separate person or second arrest is created.
