Biography

Joe Doliner, a striker at Pittsburgh Terminal Coal Company Mine No. 8 at Coverdale, reported that he and his wife were shot after a nearby explosion was blamed on him. He says county detectives took him to Allegheny County Jail and he was released on $1,000 bond. His account, published June 29, 1931, does not give a precise arrest or discharge day, formal charge or measured detention. His wife’s shooting alone does not establish her arrest. Daily Worker, June 29, 1931, page 3. Page 3’s first-person account identifies Frank Metz as the man Doliner says shot him in the face after Victor Gazoni’s house explosion. Doliner says county detectives took him to Allegheny County jail and he obtained release on 1,000-dollar bond; the alleged shooter was not arrested. These are attributed allegations. His wife’s shooting does not establish her arrest. Earlier 1930-path citations were misfiled; this is the verified June 29, 1931 original.
