Biography

Jocelyn Sawyer is an environmental organizer who participated in the May 24, 2013 blockade of the access road to Alpha Natural Resources headquarters in Bristol, Virginia. She pleaded guilty to blocking a public roadway on July 25, received a 90-day sentence with 80 days suspended, and entered the Bristol jail to serve the remaining term. She was released for good behavior on July 29 after five days. Sawyer later organized against fossil-fuel infrastructure with Food & Water Watch in New Jersey.
