Biography

Jim Ball was a Black Southern Tenant Farmers Union member imprisoned in Arkansas during the union’s organizing campaign. A January 28 dispatch printed in the January 29, 1936 Daily Worker reports that he was arrested late the preceding week after a church meeting at St. Peters near Earle and was still jailed. This establishes continuing confinement over multiple days without a precise arrest or admission day. His formal charge, sentence, release and complete custody duration are unestablished.
