Biography

Jesse White (also spelled Jessie White) was a member of the Milwaukee, Wisconsin chapter of the Black Panther Party. In September 1969 he was arrested alongside Booker Collins and Earl Leverette and charged with the attempted murder of a police officer; the three became the "Milwaukee Three." The defendants alleged they were repeatedly beaten by police following their arrest. White was convicted and sentenced to up to 30 years in prison, and a public rally demanded the release of the three Milwaukee Panthers in early 1970. (Not to be confused with the Illinois politician of the same name.)
