Biography

Jesse Griffin was a Black worker prosecuted for inciting to riot while waiting on a relief line, with a leaflet announcing an unemployed meeting in his pocket. The annual review reports his release as a defense victory. It gives neither individual custody dates nor a measured duration. A Philadelphia dispatch dated January24 in the January25,1933 Daily Worker states that mass protest yesterday forced Judge Parry to release Griffin, an unemployed Black worker with a family, although a jury had already acquitted him of inciting to riot. This supplies January23,1933 as physical discharge, not the acquittal day. No arrest day or complete custody duration is established.
