Biography

James “Jimmy” Carr was a former California prisoner associated with George Jackson and Huey Newton who became a student and teaching assistant at the University of California, Santa Cruz. The Black Panther reported that he was paroled in July 1970 and rearrested in April 1971 at the San Francisco County Courthouse while attending Soledad Brothers proceedings for a university paper. It described his continued confinement in San Francisco County Jail on an assault charge and an Adult Authority parole hold that prevented bail. The newspaper alleged political targeting and police violence; those claims are attributed to its account. The article’s earlier armed-robbery chronology is not combined into one continuous prison stay. No individual release date or outcome of the April 1971 case is established here.
