Biography

Jack Randolph was an Industrial Workers of the World organizer jailed in Portland, Oregon. Arthur Shields’s September 1922 account dates an episode to 1913 in which Randolph was brought from an existing jail confinement to face obstruction-of-traffic and incitement-to-riot accusations. Shields says a police record corroborated Randolph’s claim that he was already jailed at the time of the alleged speech, but the magistrate imposed five days and returned him to jail. This is Shields’s attributed retrospective account; the additional five-day sentence is distinguished from an unknown complete time actually served. He is not merged with Auburn, New York Socialist John F. Randolph. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/culture/pubs/liberator/1922/09/v5n09-w54-sep-1922-liberator.pdf#page=29
