Biography
J. Y. Phillips, listed as from Richmond, Virginia, was confined by Confederate authorities in Castle Godwin, Richmond. The Richmond Dispatch of April 10, 1862, page 2, column 3 lists the charge or classification as disloyalty and records commitment on 1862-03-20. This is a contemporary newspaper allegation, not a finding of guilt. The listed commitment day is not assigned as a separate physical arrest date. No release day or sentence is established by this roster. Initials and abbreviated given names are retained rather than expanded speculatively.
