Biography

J. L. Whitter was arrested at the September 1, 1930 Communist-led Oklahoma City demonstration for unemployment insurance. The September 2 Daily Worker names four arrested leaders after business complaints of traffic obstruction and police dispersal of the meeting. It explicitly distinguishes an earlier arrest on August 31 for distributing leaflets from his rearrest while attempting to speak September 1. Initials are not expanded.
