Biography

Marshall identifies Noah as a Minnesota lawyer and former Union major honorably discharged in late June 1862 because of ill health. He reports Noah's July 13, 1862 arrest at a Louisville hotel and confinement in the Jeffersonville, Indiana penitentiary. The stated pretext was courteous assistance to a released Confederate surgeon. Noah obtained release on a $10,000 bond and exile to New York, then unconditional release and cancellation of his bond after more than five months. Source: John A.
