Biography
J. Bismark was an Unemployment Council organizer in Philadelphia. The Daily Worker of November 8, 1934 names him or her among three people arrested as police attacked a meeting protesting the gassing of Sutko’s children. It also reports an earlier arrest of Bismark following the eviction attempt. The exact arrest dates and releases are unresolved.
The Daily Worker, November15,1934, page5, “Eviction Fight Leader Gets 5-Day Term,” Philadelphia November14 dispatch: The organizer is named Harry Bismark in this continuation of the same John Sutko family anti-eviction case. The report says he was arrested the previous week, initially released and immediately rearrested, then sentenced to five days in jail for perjury, which the newspaper calls a frame-up. This imposed five-day term is not a verified completed duration, and the report supplies no final release day.
