Biography
Izhar Khan was an imam at Jamaat Al-Mu’mineen Mosque in Margate, Florida. Federal agents arrested him on May 14, 2011 with his father, Hafiz Khan, and brother, Irfan Khan, in a prosecution alleging support for the Pakistani Taliban. During trial, U.S. District Judge Robert Scola found the evidence against Izhar Khan insufficient and entered a judgment of acquittal on January 17, 2013. He was released that day after 614 days in custody.
The indictment filed May 12, 2011 charged him in counts 1–3, not count 4. References to murder, kidnapping or maiming overseas describe the alleged underlying object of the section 2339A support charges, not a separate fifth indictment count.
