Biography

Irving Lazar was arrested at a Workers Party open-air meeting at 13th and Reed Streets in Philadelphia on an accusation of seditious utterances. The August 31 dispatch in the September 1, 1928 Daily Worker prints Tuesday, August 27, although August 27 that year was a Monday. The case therefore retains August month precision. Herbert Benjamin was separately arrested after asking the police station for a copy of Lazar’s charge. No individual release, completed term or final verdict is established.
