Biography
Irfan Khan is a naturalized U.S. citizen from Pakistan who worked in South Florida as a taxi driver, service technician, and limousine-company operator. Federal agents arrested him in Los Angeles on May 14, 2011 in the same Pakistani Taliban material-support prosecution brought against his father and brother. He was transferred to Miami and spent 319 days in custody, much of it in solitary confinement, before his release on bond on March 28, 2012. Prosecutors dismissed every charge against him on June 13, 2012. Khan later sued the federal government, alleging malicious prosecution.
The indictment filed May 12, 2011 charged him in counts 1–3, not count 4. References to murder, kidnapping or maiming overseas describe the alleged underlying object of the section 2339A support charges, not a separate fifth indictment count.
