Biography

The Canton report identified a Black working woman as Ida Brazenton in its opening sentence and Brazelton repeatedly thereafter. It described a former City Hall janitor, widow with a school-age daughter, arrested with an Unemployed Council relief committee after demanding aid from the Family Service Society. At trial the judge freed the defendants and instructed the charity to supply her shoes, groceries and coal. The report supplies no exact arrest or release date.
