Biography
Hyman Lumer was an economist, Communist Party national education secretary and editor. A jury convicted him and six others on January 29, 1958 of conspiring to file false non-Communist affidavits under the Taft-Hartley Act. He received an eighteen-month prison sentence and a $2,500 fine. After the Supreme Court declined review on February 20, 1961, Lumer was ordered to prison but received a ninety-day surrender delay because his wife was critically ill. His exact prison entry and release dates remain unresolved.
