Biography

Hugh Sinclair Williams was a member of the Philadelphia Black liberation group known as the Revolutionaries. He was arrested at the scene of the August 29, 1970 Cobbs Creek confrontation in which Philadelphia police officer Frank Von Colln was killed and another officer was wounded. Williams and five codefendants were convicted in a joint trial; the Pennsylvania Supreme Court record identifies Williams as one of the defendants and records the group’s revolutionary political context. He received a life sentence. The Prison Activist Resource Center still listed him as a political prisoner in 2008 under Pennsylvania prisoner number AF-2932. His custody status after that roster has not been independently established.
