Biography

Hersh Linsky was arrested at Seattle on January 29, 1918 in immigration proceedings alleging advocacy or teaching of anarchy. Federal file 54379/100 records a January 23, 1919 order for deportation at the steamship company's expense to the country from which he had come. It states that he arrived at Seattle on October 7, 1916 aboard the Osaka Shosen Kaisha line from Harbin by way of Japan; this travel route does not establish his birthplace. The hearing summary records actual arrest but does not confirm execution of the deportation order, physical release, or complete custody duration.
