Biography
Henry Stark was a coal-strike prisoner in western Pennsylvania. In November 1931 he was confined at the Allegheny County Workhouse in Blawnox with other miners arrested during the strike. The International Labor Defense organized support for them, and the Allegheny County Hunger March planned a solidarity visit to the prison. Stark was later held at Washington County Jail in Washington, Pennsylvania.
The November 24, 1931 report individually lists this National Miners Union strike prisoner at Allegheny County Workhouse, Blawnox. The roster establishes actual confinement during the mine-strike repression. It does not supply an individual statutory count, exact initial arrest, physical release or completed custody duration. The August 28, 1931 Daily Worker reports testimony by the Canonsburg mine-strike defendant identified as Stark, who denied tearing down an American flag and said he had been selling picnic tickets. The separately retained detailed August 29 trial roster identifies Henry Stark in this prosecution. This adds attributed defense testimony to his existing case, without treating the newspaper account as a verdict or fixing an unreported arrest or release day. Pages1and3 report the Canonsburg prosecution after the July19 confrontation, with JudgeCummins charging the jury. The bulletin explicitly says Anna was convicted only of unlawfulassembly and PeterWagner acquitted on all counts. The page1 bulletin and detailed trial roster disagree: the bulletin lists MaryRasefski,StanleyBarko,MikeSkwarlo,MikeSholtz and BessieKowlenski, while the detailed account lists StellaRasefske,EdgarGreene,HenryStark,WillMcQueen,JuliusHollis and LouisFazzio. No unsupported individual conviction is inferred from this conflict. Defense allegations of judicial bias, witness misconduct and restricted access are attributed, not independent findings.
