Biography
Henry Schmidt was an officer of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union prosecuted with Harry Bridges after vouching for Bridges during his 1945 naturalization hearing. A jury convicted him of conspiracy and aiding Bridges to obtain citizenship through allegedly false statements. On April 10, 1950, the court imposed concurrent two-year prison sentences and set bail at $10,000 pending appeal. He remained free during the appeal, and the Supreme Court overturned the convictions on June 15, 1953 because the prosecution was barred by the statute of limitations.
