Biography
Detroit Black youth who, with two friends, fought Detroit's notorious STRESS police unit; captured after a massive manhunt and tried, he was acquitted after attorney Ken Cockrel put the police on trial. The Black Panther Vol. 18 no.3 (1978).
A January 23, 1973 Detroit report in The Militant places Brown’s capture on January 11 and describes an eyewitness account of police beating him after he had raised his hands and been handcuffed.

The Militant reported on May 4, 1973 that Recorder’s Court Judge Samuel Gardner had dismissed the first-degree murder charge against Brown on April 6 and had also dismissed the arson charge by its April 20 Detroit report. Other shooting and weapons charges remained pending. Prosecutor William Cahalan challenged Gardner’s reduction of bail, and the appellate court temporarily restored the higher amount. Eligibility for bail is not evidence of physical release. This report gives January 12 for Brown’s capture, conflicting with the earlier January 11 contemporary report already cited here; the existing dates are preserved.
