Biography

Harry Lowrey was a leader of the Karges Furniture Company strike in Evansville, Indiana. The Daily Worker of March 2, 1935, page 2, reports that police arrested him in Chicago while picketing the Carson Pirie Scott department store as part of the strikers' campaign against retailers selling Karges furniture. Police accused him of being a Communist; he showed Democratic Party credentials and defended the workers' wage-and-hours demands. After two days he was released through the Chicago International Labor Defense. No exact arrest or release date is supplied.
