Biography

Harry L. Lewin was a Columbus, Ohio, shopowner detained in spring 1918 on federal prosecutor Stuart Bolin’s orders after alleged pro-German comments and threats of mob violence. On August 8,1918 John Lord O’Brian notified Bolin that Lewin had been ordered interned for the duration of the war. The book confirms actual internment and release in 1919. Neither the order date nor a June 12,1919 letter cited in the notes is independently treated as physical intake or discharge. Exact custody endpoints and total are unknown. William H.
