Biography

Gerald Breads, an Otis Steel employee active in union organizing and leaflet distribution, testified that armed men including Republic company policeman Dewey Jones forced him into a car after he left a Cleveland union meeting on January 13, 1937. He said he was beaten unconscious and awoke beneath the Clark Avenue Bridge. Hospital records confirmed scalp lacerations; Jones denied Breads’s allegations. The report preserves that evidentiary distinction. No judicial sentence or exact confinement duration is established.
