Biography
Gerald Bernard Best was 18 when he survived a 1976 Houston police shooting during a car chase that killed his brother Allan Charles Best and Overtone Wayne Ellis. Best was wounded and hospitalized. Police then charged him and fellow survivor Elton Rankin with five counts each of attempted capital murder of a police officer, although witnesses said the occupants had fired no shots. The contemporary report does not establish Best’s booking or release dates or the final disposition.
