Biography

George Nieves was an incarcerated Attica participant interviewed by WBAI in February 1972 among prisoners isolated as alleged leaders after the September 1971 uprising. He described having been raised in the United States, advocacy for Spanish-speaking prisoners facing disciplinary proceedings, exploitation in prison labor, and being singled out with an X on his back after the retaking. He alleged threats and assaults by officers and remained confined at the time of interview. This identifies political advocacy and alleged retaliation during sustained confinement, without establishing that his original conviction was political. Initial arrest, sentence, release and total custody duration remain unknown. Source: https://freedomarchives.org/Documents/Finder/DOC510_scans/Prisons_Attica/510.we.are.attica.pdf#page=13
