Biography
The May 21, 1942 Camp McCoy receipt report individually names George Hoffman among seven civilian enemy-alien internees received from the Immigration and Naturalization Service in Milwaukee at about 7:00 p.m. on May 20. The commander reported that they were then interned at Camp McCoy. May 20 is an actual transfer into that camp after earlier INS custody, not an established first arrest or original detention date. The record concerns wartime civilian administrative confinement. No criminal conviction, ethnicity, citizenship or political affiliation is inferred. Exact initial detention, final release and completed custody duration remain unverified. Administrative descriptions of permanent internment are not treated as life sentences.
