Biography

George C. Edwards was a college SLID organizer whom a February 21, 1935 Fort Smith dispatch expressly described as in the Fort Smith jail with Reverend Claude C. Williams after a strike involving four thousand relief workers. The report discussed arrests and barratry or anarchy prosecutions arising from the organizing campaign. It establishes actual political confinement, but does not give Edwards’s individual statutory charge, exact arrest day, physical release or complete time in custody. This Arkansas organizer is distinct from the later New Haven Black Panther George Walter Edwards.
