Biography
H. L. Mitchells union history names minister G. H. Smith as Ward Rodgerss companion in organizing a Southern Tenant Farmers Union local in Crittenden County, Arkansas. Two days after their meeting, riding bosses and deputy sheriffs dragged Smith from a car, took him to the woods, beat him and then jailed him. This establishes actual political restraint for union organizing, without a charge, exact date or completed term. An earlier founder list prints C. H. Smith; the inconsistent initials are retained without silently merging or expanding them, or creating a second founder profile.
