Frederick Briehl was from Brooklyn, New York. Frederick Briehl was a conscientious objector imprisoned during World War I at Fort Leavenworth and the Fort Douglas War Prison Barracks in Utah. (Recorded as Frederick "Fred" Briehl)

The November 6, 1934 Daily Worker, page 3, identifies his portrait among Communist candidates. Cornell University’s Fred Briehl papers (collection 3474) identify the Wallkill dairy farmer and political organizer as the same man whose 1917–1920 diaries document imprisonment for refusing World War I military service; its creator record gives his lifespan as 1892–1974.
