Biography

Page 3's Chicago report individually identifies Frank Gallagher as one of two Packing House Workers Industrial Union organizers jailed during the livestock-handlers strike. He spoke at a South Side protest meeting of over 300 Black and white workers against police raids. The report gives no exact arrest, discharge, charge or sentence and does not identify the second organizer. Contemporary original newspaper source; individual page evidence retained in review audit 879. Exact individual custody dates and duration are not inferred from relative dates or collective claims.

The August 2 Chicago dispatch names Charles Soders as Gallagher’s co-arrestee and reports that Gallagher was released late Tuesday afternoon on bail pending disorderly-conduct and unlawful-assembly charges. Both had been arrested on a streetcar the preceding Friday. The article does not establish Soders’s release, and no calendar endpoints or complete numerical custody total are inferred.

Case

Charges: Disorderly conduct and unlawful assembly following union organizing in the Chicago stockyards strike.
Sentence: An August 2 Chicago dispatch says Gallagher and Charles Soders were arrested together on a streetcar Friday after a strike meeting, and that Gallagher was physically released late Tuesday afternoon on bail pending disorderly-conduct and unlawful-assembly charges. The release is stated only for Gallagher. Exact admission and discharge days, eventual disposition and actual total remain unverified; questioning lasting an hour and a half is not the complete detention total.
