Biography

Francis Walker was one of two workers arrested when Detroit police raided the Workers Center at 2113 Lycaste Avenue and confiscated its literature. The Daily Worker of October 23, 1934, page 4, identifies Francis Walker as caretaker and Bob Marat as another auto worker, and reports that both were held at police central station for investigation and released after twenty-four hours. The article prints Tuesday, September 9, which is inconsistent with the 1934 calendar; the October 13 issue reports a similar unnamed-caretaker raid on Tuesday before an October 12 dispatch. No exact arrest or release day is chosen across this conflict. Political motive is the paper's account. The reported twenty-four hours is one documented day of actual custody.
