Biography

Fannie Liftshitz was a left-wing International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union picket arrested outside the Principal Cloak Company, 32 West 18th Street, New York, on the Friday preceding the September 9 dispatch printed on page 3 of the Daily Worker, September 11, 1925. Police charged five named pickets with disorderly conduct and took them to Jefferson Market Court. The first two listed, Ruth Sametefsky and Fannie Liftshitz, were fined $5 each; the remaining three were fined $10 each. The issue calls the total six arrests and separately describes Anna Flint’s afternoon arrest. It gives no actual jail admission, release or custody length. Printed name spelling is retained.
