Biography

Esther Nickman was one of seven Detroit John Reed Club delegates arrested Saturday June 23, 1934 while entering the Nazi Consulate in the Hammond Building to demand Ernst Thaelmann’s release. A June 25 dispatch individually names the seven and explicitly states they were released later. A Thursday hearing on disturbing-the-peace charges was prospective; its outcome and the actual release day are unprinted.
