Biography
Englebert Nilson was named as one of the last two deportees in the Portland Communist-repression cases of 1930–31. The November 16 Portland dispatch says Carl Struve and Englebert Nilson left on an October 30 train, and that police informer M. R. Bacon left on the same train. It distinguishes deportation proceedings from the criminal-syndicalism cases dismissed on November 16. The report does not provide the individual arrest or jail admission, destination, physical border-crossing date, conviction or actual duration. Departure by train is not treated as a verified completed overseas removal date. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1931/v08-n276-NY-nov-17-1931-DW-LOC.pdf#page=1
The September 15, 1930 Daily Worker, page 1, names Engelbrecht Nilson among sixteen people held after the September 9 raid on Portland’s Workers Center at 312 Worcester Building. The newspaper lists the worker among eight held for immigration investigation. Its September 9 raid date differs from September 10 in other accounts; the release date and total time held are not stated.
