Biography
Emanuel Blum was the Communist Party district organizer in Indiana. A federal grand jury indicted him under the Smith Act membership clause on March 23, 1956, and agents arrested him in Chicago on March 27. He was initially held under $20,000 bail, later reduced to $5,000. After the Supreme Court restricted membership-clause prosecutions, the government dismissed Blum’s case in May 1958.
